E7440: Problems with graphic after install High Sierra
Hervé replied to XirurG's topic in The Archive
Don't confuse Ivy Bridge integrated graphics HD4000 with Haswell integrated graphics HD4400/4600/etc. Although some general principles apply to all generations of framebuffers (eg: framebuffers indexes, connector types), HD4000 stuff is irrelevant and not applicable to Haswell platforms. It's critical to understand that despite an apparent (but incorrect) link in terms of numbers (4 thousands), these are different generations of integrated graphics. JakeLo gave you a link to my Haswell graphics patching guide in post #2 and the guide clearly states limitations encountered from Sierra 10.12.3 and these are also stated in post #3. Not much I can add, I'm afraid... Something changed in the Azul framebuffer (or elsewhere) after early versions of Sierra and this no longer supports multiple displays with DVI output. HDMI and DP remain Ok though. -
D830 with C2D + nVidia Quadro NVS 135M: no wifi under Sierra
Hervé replied to LunaOsx420's topic in The Archive
BCM4312 is one of those cards no longer supported; there is no workaround. It's not a matter of (re)branding, there are no drivers for those Brooadcom chips and older drivers do not work under Sierra. -
Quite possible if you have an Alps v8 or similar.

You could start here... https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/forum/161-faqs-tutorials/ Regarding audio, try installing CodecCommander kext or EAPDFix (but not both at the same time). Re: Touchpad, not much we can do until you identify the model (e.g.: ALPS, Elan, Synaptics, I2C)
-
You can expect this E6420 to work 100% under Mavericks 10.9.5. You may consult this thread for details and for the bootpack which contains all necessary add-on kexts. SD card reader will work OOK once you apply the necessary DSDT patch detailed here. For keyboard, refer to this thread and this one. Broadcom BCM4313 chip is not supported and has to be replaced by a supported card. See here for details. You can also update your BIOS to the latest version A24.

E7440: Problems with graphic after install High Sierra

Obviously, you do NOT install a patched kext from El Capitan in a High Sierra build. Apply the patches, as described, to the vanilla High Sierra Azul kext. -

We're not going to be able to help unless you state your wireless card model... https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2120-inventory-of-supported-and-unsupported-wireless-cards/ If you have a BCM431x of some sort, these were dropped in Sierra. -
Fn-Insert / Fn-F3 will control brightness as macOS level.

Just took the old D620s out of retirement to verify behaviour and can 100% confirm the need for docking station/port replicator.
-
I believe I said you'd probably need a docking station/port replicator.

E7440: Problems with graphic after install High Sierra
Hervé replied to XirurG's topic in The Archive
As stated in my above research thread, I've not been able to obtain dual/multiple displays on my Haswell/HD4600 Latitude E6440 (close cousin of the E7440) with my Dell E-Port docking stations/port replicators (PR02X/PR03X) since Sierra 10.12.3. It did work with earlier Sierra versions and still does under El Capitan / Yosemite / Mavericks. VGA is not normally supported under Haswell graphics but, since you have HD4400 built in your i5-4300u, you may find it works OOB directly off the laptop. Binary patch that fixes final stage boot glitch (what you call the "scattered apple") for High Sierra is well known and readily available... In: IOGraphicsFamily Find: 0100007522 Replace by: 010000EB22 -
If you want only the (VGA) external display, you have to close the lid, which means using an external keyboard and mouse (and probably a docking station/port replicator too - for the On/Off switch). Afaik, under OS X, you cannot turn the built-in LCD off on a laptop if the lid is opened.

Other than the AppleHDA_IDT, you should not require any of those add-on kexts...
-
The short graphics glitch (aka final or 2nd stage boot glitch) has been in existence for years now; it's just that, in High Sierra, the fix is different than it was in Sierra and El Capitan: In: IOGraphicsFamily Find: 0100007522 Replace by: 010000EB22 Just adjust your patch accordingly in Clover.

You're not following the documented process. Install ML as if it were a regular OS X installation. Only then will you apply MLPF.

[SOLVED] Asus x550cl: I can't make Sierra installation boot from usb
Hervé replied to NRobert's topic in The Archive
Re: AR9485, please consult our inventory in the R&D->wireless & BT forum sub-section. -
AR9485 is not the best compatible card for OS X/macOS. You'll actually require a patched kext to get it supported and you'll find speed limited to 11Mbps. It's probably best to replace that card by a fully compatible model. https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2120-inventory-of-supported-and-unsupported-wireless-cards/ Your Clover config has lots of incorrect settings. Try this one instead and remove NullCPUPM kext from your Clover Other folder. config.plist.zip

Why don't you just simply make a vanilla ML installer with myHack, then install standard 64bit ML on your X61. Then, you'll be able to apply the MLPF hack which requires to have a legit' ML installer package in Applications folder. You can't just overwrite the vanilla 64bit kernel with the fat binary version from ML Beta 1. Whilst it may then run in 64bit kernel mode, it just won't allow you to run ML in 32bit kernel mode since you wouldn't have the necessary fat binary kexts. So follow the principles explained in our posted MLPF guides: https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2464-dell-latitude-d630-intel-gma-x3100-ml-with-full-qeci/ https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2468-dell-latitude-d830-intel-gma-x3100-ml-with-full-qeci/ https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2495-dell-latitude-d530-intel-gma-x3100-ml-with-full-qeci/ https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/2467-dell-latitude-d430-intel-gma950-ml-with-full-qeci/ Again, if you previously ran Lion 10.7.5 on that X61, you probably can re-use the add-on kexts you had installed, again, as long as they're fat binary.

Dell Latitude E6540 Sound and QE/Qi not working with 10.13.2
Hervé replied to TheOtherOne's topic in The Archive
Clearly not... https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/9961-how-do-i-repair-permissions-and-rebuild-the-cache-yosemite-and-later/ -
Please state the method you use for installation and post the relevant files. For instance, if you use Clover, post the zipped EFI folder (less the Themes subfolder to limit the size). Re: wireless, Atheros ar94 is incomplete data; it'll be something like AR94xx.

HDAU is the device for HDMI audio. Regular audio uses HDEF. On E6x40 laptops, audio is silent if you reboot from Windows. To get audio working, always perform a cold start.
