Mmm, You bought some really older and slower RAM, but that'll do I guess. DDR2-800 would have been a much better choice.
-
I think we're gonna need a better picture, eh?

There's no reason why it would only start Mavericks in safe mode and there's no reason why you would boot your myHack installer in safe mode either... Something is wrong: BIOS parameters? USB installer? Intel wireless you did not remove or disabled? It'll be one of those. Check your settings and follow the guide very carefully.

Dell Vostro 200 - Snow Leopard/Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
Hervé replied to Hervé's topic in The Archive
Retail/mainstream Mavericks 10.9 running perfectly after a fresh re-installation. Complete fresh ML 10.8 & Mav 10.9 installations can be made with myHack3.3.1 + attached boot pack. This caters for full built-in hardware, including LAN and audio, so EDP may not be required. For other hardware and add-on graphics card, deal as required. Also includes revised DSDT (of Inspiron 530s origin from InsanelyMac) that fully supports Sleep & Wake. System is now 100% operational. Vostro200ST_ML-Mav_bootpack.zip -

Try and re-install Chameleon bootloader (can be done through myHack menu) or maybe you have the 4k sector HDD issue. Do a search on the forum on "4K" or "boot0" and you'll find the fix.

Re: GT610, look here, post #4.

Good for you; now, how about a proper Vanilla installation with myHack so that everyone understands what's required instead of that obscure "bit of this, some of that" mixed-up recipe you mention just above? Coming here to post about installing Lion on your X61 by following an existing tuto found on the Net + a distro bears absolutely no value to me.

Firmware = microcode on the device itself. Usually, it's tuned to a specific Network vendor, but I'd leave it as is for the moment. Download Rubel's appropriate AppleUSBCDCACMData kext (64 or 32bit) and patch it with your own device ids: product id 0x9205= 37381 (decimal) vendor id 0x05c6= 1478 (decimal) Open up the kext and edit the plist as follows: before <key>AppleUSBCDCACMData3</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDCACMData</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>AppleUSBCDCACMData</string> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOUSBInterface</string> <key>IOUserClientClass</key> <string>AppleUSBCDCACMDataUserClient</string> <key>InputBuffers</key> <integer>8</integer> <key>IsQualcommGobiDevice</key> <true/> <key>OutputBuffers</key> <integer>16</integer> <key>bConfigurationValue</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>bInterfaceNumber</key> <integer>2</integer> <key>idProduct</key> <integer>4878</integer> <key>idVendor</key> <integer>2352</integer> </dict> after <key>AppleUSBCDCACMData3</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDCACMData</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>AppleUSBCDCACMData</string> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOUSBInterface</string> <key>IOUserClientClass</key> <string>AppleUSBCDCACMDataUserClient</string> <key>InputBuffers</key> <integer>8</integer> <key>IsQualcommGobiDevice</key> <true/> <key>OutputBuffers</key> <integer>16</integer> <key>bConfigurationValue</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>bInterfaceNumber</key> <integer>2</integer> <key>idProduct</key> <integer>37381</integer> <key>idVendor</key> <integer>1478</integer> </dict> Then place the kext in /E/E, re-run myFix (quick) and reboot. See how it goes from there on.

Not much of a difference! I guess that distro of yours put all kexts in /S/L/E, so you'll never know for sure how things work. No DSDT in that Extra, so you're not using any it would seem...

We don't use or support ifail/unifail… That has its own web site if you wish to query about those products.

Your Chameleon boot plist is kind of empty and what's the rationale behind that MacBookPro2,3 SMBIOS model (did a MBP2,3 ever exist???) ? I would have expected the SMBIOS of a MB3,1 or MB4,1 with the X3100 GPU; possibly the recommended MB5,1/MBP5,1 settings if you use the tuned-up FakeSMC settings. Could you attach your Extensions folder at all? It was not included in the Extra.zip your provided. Why don't you proceed with a proper myHack installation instead of that evil distro that is just inadequate?

Yes: don't use unifail.

Much better now with the right settings and kexts in place…

Let's take this offline as you probably have some incorrect settings. VoodooHDA works perfectly on that laptop. I've got no issue whatsoever with myM4300 and that runs on a [email protected]. This being said, it's perfectly normal to see your CPU cores running at the lowest speed when they are more or less idle and jump to the max frequency (and/or intermediate ones) as and when required by the actual load. There's no misbehaviour in that. There is no back-throttling due to overheating, no, that does not exist.
-
Re: CPU clock speed, maybe you need to use and tune one of those recent FakeSMC kexts as posted in this article. Also, check that you have P&C States enabled in your Chameleon boot plist.

GT520 has been replaced by GT610, granted they are identical (nVidia just renamed older cards). You would not normally need any kexts for that card as the GT610 works OOB in Lion, ML and Mavericks. Things will therefore be similar with the GT520 (at worst maybe a kext patch could be required). That kext might have been required before ML 10.8.2 or L 10.7.4, as the GT610 works OOB since those versions. GT610 can be purchased for well under USD $50, so I would not go buying a GT520 (old stock?) for USD $80! What do you mean when you say of your installation that you are "unsure [...] if it worked or not" ??? You either managed to install and boot Mavericks properly or you did not. What could there be you are unsure of?

Installing 10.9 to D830 - Still Waiting For Root Device
Hervé replied to lions94's topic in The Archive
It could have been the (in)famous 4k sector HDD issue... -
Or alternatively, patch the CSR kext (assuming you have a DW350 or DW360 module) and set BT On or Off from then Finder menu bar icon. https://osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1824-bluetooth-adapters-latitude-d-series-inspiron-laptops/

Graphics will be Ok up until acceleration is required by the OS, which can be as soon as you open up Safari for instance. For very basic stuff, you'll be Ok, but you will notice that your Finder bar will not be translucent, that you have no way to change screen resolution through the display pref pane or that opening up the LaunchPad will be slow and possibly glitchy. Try a Ctrl-UP/Ctrl-UP, Ctrl-DOWN/Ctrl-DOWN or Ctrl-LEFT/Ctrl-RIGHT to see how that goes too… Basically, you need to get a supported low-profile PCIe card in that desktop. Here's a /Extra folder for your Inspiron 530s that contains: i530s_Extra.zip DSDT table (from LatinMcG) Chameleon boot plist SMBIOS plist (iMac 10,1 profile) Extensions subfolder with: the tuned up FakeSMC kext the 2 PS2 kexts (AppleACPIPS2Nub + ApplePS2Controller) the 2 Voodoo audio kexts (VoodooHDA + AppleHDADisabler) the LAN port kext (Intel82566MM) the lspci kext (lspcidrv) That's all I use and that's all you need as far as I can see in your /Extra folder to boot with everything working (unless you have other hardware I missed). To show you how close the Inspiron 530s and the Vostro 200 ST are, here the lspci info from my Vostro (obviously you won't have my nVidia graphics card or my Tenda Ralink-based wireless dongle): pc10:~ admin$ lspci -nn pcilib: 0000:01:00.0 64-bit device address ignored. pcilib: 0000:01:00.0 64-bit device address ignored. 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31/P35/P31 Express DRAM Controller [8086:29c0] (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31/P35/P31 Express PCI Express Root Port [8086:29c1] (rev 02) 00:19.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation 82562V-2 10/100 Network Connection [8086:10c0] (rev 02) 00:1a.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 [8086:2937] (rev 02) 00:1a.1 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 [8086:2938] (rev 02) 00:1a.2 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #6 [8086:2939] (rev 02) 00:1a.7 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 [8086:293c] (rev 02) 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:293e] (rev 02) 00:1d.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 [8086:2934] (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 [8086:2935] (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 [8086:2936] (rev 02) 00:1d.7 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 [8086:293a] (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge [8086:244e] (rev 92) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation 82801IR (ICH9R) LPC Interface Controller [8086:2916] (rev 02) 00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation 82801IR/IO/IH (ICH9R/DO/DH) 6 port SATA Controller [AHCI mode] [8086:2922] (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) SMBus Controller [8086:2930] (rev 02) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation Unknown device [10de:104a] (rev a1) 01:00.1 Audio device [0403]: NVIDIA Corporation HDMI Audio stub [10de:0e08] (rev a1) 02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Ralink corp. Does it get registered as multiple USB modems in Network Pref Pane with maybe a little telephone icon in the Finder bar?
-
What changes does this SSDT bring to the D630 because the T° issue is with the GPU, not really with the CPU?
-
As I suspected, you have the default integrated GMA 3100 and that is totally unsupported under Mac OS X. That is why your machine is lagging and graphics are choppy: you have no acceleration at all. You have to install a supported PCIe card in your 530s. It's the Small Tower model, right? I use a Twintech GT610 2Go in my Vostro 200 ST as it comes with low-profile rear brackets in order to fit into low-profile desktop such as ours. GT610-based cards are very cheap and work perfectly. You can actually use the Vostro 200 bootpack and EDP System Build, but remember to replace the Vostro DSDT table by the 530s table I provided earlier.

Sounds like a consequence of running a Hackintosh with partial graphics acceleration only. In Chrome, I've read that you could "disable HW acceleration", so maybe that's the explanation for the difference in behaviour. If confirmed, there's probably nothing you can do for Safari...

It's just a default ranking feature of the forum package we use, which is based on the number of posts made. It's not used for anything and means absolutely nothing Herr General.
